Evil eyes aren't actually that evil...

Everywhere in Turkey, you can find the blue round "eyes". Large, small, round, in jewelry, in homes, gardens, and in trees like this one. It is believed that these eyes can protect you from the evil eye. That's why people often say, after giving a compliment, 'Mashallah'. This way, you know it's truly meant and they're not saying it out of jealousy or with bad intentions. If you come to Turkey and want to give someone or something a compliment, and then immediately say 'Mashallah', I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated. I find this a beautiful custom in Turkey. Mashallah!
